Lucio Dalla - Caruso

Tribute to the great Italian singer song writer Lucio Dalla (Bologna, march 4th 1943 - Montreux march 1st 2012)

The song Caruso was inspired by this occurrence: the singer song writer was one obliged to spend a night in an hotel in Sorrento due to a breakdown in his ship. He slept in the same room in which the famous tenor Caruso was host some years before he died. The owners of the hotel told him about the last days of his life and his love for a girl he taught to sing. From this story Dalla wrote this beautiful song.

Durante un'intervista Dalla ha raccontato il significato del testo di Caruso. Il cantautore si trovò costretto, in seguito ad un guasto alla propria imbarcazione, a soggiornare in un albergo a Sorrento, proprio nella stessa stanza che anni prima aveva ospitato il tenore Enrico Caruso poco prima della morte. Qui i proprietari dell'albergo gli raccontarono degli ultimi giorni della vita del tenore e della sua passione per una giovane a cui dava lezioni di canto. Da quei racconti Lucio Dalla ebbe l'ispirazione per scrivere il brano.

He is the son of a teacher and a worker who played in a band, Michele started to play as a young boy. He studied accountancy in Molfetta even though he would have liked to become a comic strip artist. After the diploma he decided to study advertisement and he won a scholarship for the Communication Academy of Milan, but very soon he abandoned the advertisement world to dedicate himself entirely to music.

While you are sleeping is a song of Max Gazzé part of the sound track of th movie Basilicata Coast to Coast (2010) where he debuts as an actor (in the video some scenes of the movie).
Max Gazzé was born in Rome but his origins are Sicilian too (his father is from Scicli Ragusa). He spent his childhood in Belgium. At 6 years old he started to study piano and at 14 he studied the electric bass amd starts to play with several bands in the Brussel clubs (and here it is the connection with the recipe for the zealous!!!) After some years he move in south France where he works as artistic productor too. A lot of concer tours bring him in the Netherlands. In 1994, 1995 he works at his first album, Against a sea wave, presented unplugged during Franco Battiato tour. Up to now he published 11 albums.

A 6 anni inizia a studiare pianoforte, a 14 anni si dedica invece al basso elettrico e comincia a esibirsi con diversi gruppi nei locali di Bruxelles (ed ecco per gli appassionati il collegamento con la ricetta!!!). Dopo qualche anno si trasferisce nel sud della Francia dove lavora anche come produttore artistico (Pyramid, Tiziana Kutich). Varie tournée lo portano anche nei Paesi Bassi. Nel 1994 e 1995 lavora alla realizzazione del primo album, Contro un’onda del mare, pubblicato nel gennaio 1996 e presentato in versione acustica nel tour di Franco Battiato. Finora ha pubblicato 11 album.

Patty Pravo, art name of Nicoletta Strambelli, is a famous Italian singer born in Veneto Region, Venice on April 9th 1948. She spent her youth in Venice with her grandmother and since she was very young she studied dance, piano and attended a course of orchestra leader too. Afterwards she spent some time in London and then she moved in Rome where she started to have success under the name of Guy Magenta. It is in the legendary Piper Club cult place of that period that she was discovered by the manager Alberigo Crocetta. The choice of her art name was made by the singer and it refers to Dante's Inferno. She has a very long and musical lucky carrier with the publication of 18 long player records from 1968 to 1990 and 10 cd from 1994 to 2011.

AGRICANTUS - Carizzi r'amuri (Es-Souk)

It has happened at the recent Cous Cous Festival of San Vito Lo Capo (PA) in Sicily that we listened Agricantus (from Latin: The song of wheat). It is a Sicilian Folk ambient band formed in Palermo in 1979, an example od mixture of different musical styles, different dialects and languages, modern and arcaic sounds. At the concert we particularly appreciated the voice of the Swiss singer Rosie Wiederkehr member of the band since the 90'. The song Carizzi r'amuri (Love caresses) is part of the Tuareg Album.

By the way...you must not lose the next Cous Cous Festivals, an unmissable occasion of musical and culinary contamination in this beautiful town for four days, night and day, with the participation of the whole population.

E' stato al recente Festival del cous cous di San Vito Lo Capo (PA) che abbiamo ascoltato il gruppo Agricantus (dal latino: il canto del campo di grano). Si tratta di un gruppo musicale siciliano di genere folk ambient nato a Palermo nel 1979, esempio di commistione di stili musicali, lingue e dialetti, sonorità moderne e strumenti musicali arcaici. Al concerto abbiamo particolarmente apprezzato la voce e la presenza scenica della cantante svizzera Rosie Wiederkehr membro del gruppo dall'inizio degli anni '90.
Il brano Carizzi r'amuri è tratto dall'album Tuareg.
